Representatives of the military leadership, People's Republic of China and Taiwan will meet for the first time since 1949. The meeting will take place in the American Forum of ethnic Security Assistance (Transnational Security Cooperation – SEC), which will be held at Havana in August 2009. That was reported by China Daily, citing an anonymous source on the Chinese military leadership.

Topics to be discussed at the meeting has not yet been named. Director of the Taiwan Institute For Nenyuan called the agreement between China and Taiwan indication that the parties are ready for military cooperation.

The annual forum promoting inter-ethnic security participating countries in the Asia-Pacific region. China participated in the forum in 2000, but refused to visit the forum in 2002, when he was invited to Taiwan. During this period of Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian proclaimed the idea of political separation from the island of China.

Island of Taiwan, located off the south-east coast of China, came to China in 1683 as part of the province of Fujian. In 1895, after the defeat in the war with the Japanese the Chinese government was forced to cede the island of Japan, but after the Second World War, he was returned to China.

Only 22 countries recognize Taiwan a separate state, most of them – the countries of Latin America. Relations between Taiwan and the PRC have improved only after entry in May 2008 as President of Taiwan, Ma Intszyu. In December 2009, between the parties was opened direct air service.
