You may see those two wheeled machines and think, where they get their power from to move so quickly across the ever glades. If you are really interested in knowing, the source of a motorcycle really lies in its energy resources, ultimately located in its battery terminal. The truth is, when it comes to motorcycles, it’s usually all about the power of the machine, and all this power originates from its batteries.

Voltage Power - If you are really serious about riding these machines, you should at least know some information about motorcycle batteries and the different voltage designations. There are many types of voltages, for example, there is the 6 volt or 12-volt battery, which may or may not be accurately representative of the batteries true voltage.

If you deliberately test your voltage by turning off the ignition, you may see a reading of anywhere between 6.5 and 7.3 volts for the 6 volt battery, and for the 12 volt battery you may see a reading ranging from 12.5 and 13.5 volts. In testing your battery, you should check to see if your battery voltage falls too low close to the voltage designation. This is because if it falls too low, you will have starting problems. Keep your battery charged at about 80 percent when it is new.

Conventional and Maintenance Free Batteries - There are two main types of motorcycle batteries. The conventional motorcycle batteries will demand more from you, as it requires frequent addition of distilled water among other things like electrolyte or battery acid.

On the other hand, maintenance-free batteries as the name suggests requires little care and maintenance. However, you should bear in mind that maintenance-free batteries should be charged and installed correctly and properly for it to provide a good source of energy and maintain its useful life.

Service Period – The standard service period for a battery is approximately three years, given that it is properly maintained. Remember to always check your battery’s water level and never take for granted the charging of your battery. You should try to charge it every month in order for it to perform at the highest level. Also, get a volt meter which is very useful in checking the charge of your battery.
